The beauty and grooming industry in the country is booming, owing to the growing desire among both men and women to look stylish and feel good. Emerging consumerism, urbanization and increasing disposable income are also few factors driving this industry.
Beauty & Wellness has 5 sub-segments:  Salons & Beauty Center, Rejuvenation, Fitness & Slimming, Alternate Therapy & Treatment, and Product Consultation & Counter Sales.
According to a joint study by FICCI & PwC, of the entire wellness industry, Beauty Care would continue to dominate with almost 50% market share, followed by Alternate Therapy. A KPMG Wellness Report estimates that workforce requirements in the beauty and salon segment will grow from 3.4 million in 2017 to 12.1 million in 2022.
Global cosmetics market is expected to garner $429.8 billion by 2022, registering a CAGR of 4.3% during the forecast period 2016-2022. Cosmetics Market (makeup or beauty products) are mixture of chemical generally used to enhance the appearance or odor of the human body. Sun care, skin care, hair care, deodorants, makeup and color cosmetics, and fragrances are some of the cosmetics products that are predominantly available and used by individuals. Retail stores including supermarkets, exclusive brand outlets, and specialty stores amongst others are the major distribution channels, with online channels gaining popularity among consumers.
In this the large 700 billion INR opportunity offered by the Indian wellness industry has sparked the interest of global and domestic entrants into this space, even as incumbents are directing their efforts on scaling up operations.

Market Size

The market size of India's beauty, cosmetic and grooming market will reach $ 20 billion by 2025 from the current $ 6.5 billion on the back of rise in disposable income of middle class and growing aspirations of people to live good life and look good, according to Assocham. To suit consumption across difference levels of purchasing power, FMCG companies are coming out with variety of products in different price range. 
Brands such as L’oreal, Lakme, Maybellene, Nivea and Color Bar are being pushed as mass market products and focus on younger women and women with lower buying power, noted the Assocham paper. While these are little expensive products, the price barriers are also being broken both by the consumers and the manufacturers.  
“Interestingly, men who fall in the age group of 18 to 25, spend more money on grooming and personal care products than women in India. The aspirations and requirements of today’s young Indian men are rapidly evolving. With a surge in disposable income, men are becoming more discerning and indulgent. In an evolving trend in India, men are beginning to look at innovative grooming and personal care products created specifically for them,” highlighted the Assocham study.
